Why we don’t talk about sex

Do you know what boggles my mind? The whole reason we exist as a human species is because of sex and because of women having babies.

Yet, it is so taboo to discuss sex and sexuality– especially that of a woman.

I am obsessive about understanding the human species. I studied anthropology, biology and languages. I then studied medicine, followed by training in obstetrics and gynecology. What I found the most elusive and the most confusing through it all is that the primary way for our species to continue to exist is simply through sexuality, pregnancy, birth and through the remainder of the female experience.

Sex and reproduction is the most required component for survival and yet the most mysterious, hidden and repressed aspect of our entire existence.

Is this protective? Are we at the most vulnerable when we are sexual and therefore, even speaking about intercourse makes us worry about having our guard down?

It just doesn’t make sense to me. Let’s talk about it!
